As we head into Thanksgiving, I want to express how thankful we are for you!
We appreciate your commitment to knitting and crochet and your interest in new techniques and classes. We also appreciate your excitement over new yarns we bring into the store and rediscovering our current stock. Most of all, we want to thank you for your friendship whether you are local to Utah, live across the country, or even live outside the US!

In this newsletter, we are highlighting Cumbria, a much-loved yarn from The Fibre Co.
Cumbria is a county in northwest England that borders Scotland. It is known for its deep blue lakes, high mountainous moors (with sheep grazing on them) as well as famous poets and writers including Henry Wordsworth, Samuel Taylor Coleridge and Beatrix Potter.

This spectacular place is the inspiration for The Fibre Co.’s classic worsted weight yarn, Cumbria. This yarn is a combination of fine Merino for softness, wool from the English Masham sheep for a beautiful heathered color and Argentinian mohair for strength and luster. Garments made from Cumbria are practical but still add luxury to everyday wear.
Cumbria is on the light side of the worsted weight spectrum making this yarn perfect if you like versatile but not overly warm pullovers, cardigans, shawls and hats. These garments are perfect for long walks in the highlands whether you are in Great Britain or Park City.
The color palette ranges from tranquil greens and blues to rich reds and pinks to earthy neutrals, each color reflects the breathtaking landscapes of Cumbria. Many of them are named after places in Cumbria such as Blencathra, Derwentwater, Nutkin, and Scafell Pike.

Yarrow by Marie Amelie Designs
Tensho Pullover (Artist) by Beatrice Perron Dahlen
If you would like to knit a circular yoke cardigan, both Yarrow by Marie Amelie Designs and Tensho Pullover (Artist) by Beatrice Perron Dahlen are beautiful options. Both were designed for The Fibre Co. Cumbria. Yarrow is knitted top down while Tensho Pullover (Artist) is bottom up.
Granit Cardigan by Katarina Linnhagen
Santiam Canyon Jacket by Kay Hopkins
Cardigans are becoming more and more popular. Two suggestions are Granit Cardigan by Katarina Linnhagen and Santiam Canyon Jacket by Kay Hopkins. Both cardigans are knitted from the top down in one piece with raglan sleeve construction. Cumbria would be an excellent yarn choice for both.
Elfriede by Shannon Cook
I needed a break from shawls, but I am ready to start knitting them again! I miss how cozy and warm they make me feel. This gorgeous pattern is Elfriede. It was designed by Shannon Cook for Cumbria. This asymmetrical shawl features a lace stitch pattern that was inspired by small trees that surround a remote lake near where she grew up in Canada.
Multnomah Falls Hat by Kay Hopkins
Ochoco Hat by Kay Hopkins
Cumbria is a wonderful yarn choice for hats! Two suggestions are Multnomah Falls Hat and Ochoco Hat both designed by Kay Hopkins.

Emergency Slow Knitting Club Meeting
December 5th and 12th from 4:30 – 6:30pm.
It is this time of the year that I realize how much more knitting I need to complete for the number of gifts that I would like to give. Making this a bit more stressful, I am not the fastest knitter. In fact, you could call me a slow knitter.
If you are like me and need to put aside some additional knitting time, please join me on Thursdays, December 5th and 12th to knit at the store. Bring your hot chocolate or other favorite beverage and I will supply the Christmas cookies. You are not required to own the Slow Knitting Club Tote to join the club, but if you make a purchase of yarn, needles or totes during the meetings, you will be entered in a drawing for a skein of yarn.
