Gorgeous Tosh Wool + Cotton And The Utah Yarn Crawl Starts Saturday!

Tosh Wool + Cotton

We are very happy to now stock Tosh Wool + Cotton from Madelinetosh. As the name suggests, it is a wool and cotton blend. Because it is from Madelinetosh, both the superwash merino and the Pima cotton in this 50/50 DK-weight blend are ethically sourced in Peru. The superwash merino gives projects made from this yarn the ability to be machine washed on gentle cycle while the Pima cotton gives your project additional softness for against your skin plus durability.

Sweaters knit from this yarn are wonderful for cooler evenings after beautiful Park City summer days as well as for transitioning into cooler seasons.
It has been much too long since I have featured a men’s sweater. This sweater from Alicia Plummer was worth the wait. Designed for Tosh Wool + CottonIn Stillness 2 is a raglan sweater knit from the top down. The pattern also includes a schematic which is very helpful when deciding which size to knit.
Another favorite of mine, designed to be knit with Tosh Wool + Cotton, is Sailaway Cardigan from Marie Greene. The pattern calls for one main color and two contrasting colors. The sweater is knit from the top down. Though it looks like stranded colorwork, Marie designed the cardigan to be knit using an easy to remember slip-stitch design.
Our summer knit-along, Curran Cardigan by Rebecca Clow is another pattern that is beautiful in Tosh Wool + Cotton. This lace cardigan is knit from the bottom up with drop shoulders and includes two neckline options: round and V-neck as well as two sleeve lengths.
Since choosing this cardigan as our summer knit-along project, I have found Rebecca Clow’s podcast, Creabea Knitting Podcast, and highly recommend it. Rebecca is from Edinburgh, Scottland and her knitting focused podcast is informative and relaxing to watch.

Another pattern designed by Rebecca  that would be fun in Tosh Wool + Cotton is Tolsta Tee. This is a basic raglan t-shirt that can be easily customized using different design options. Rebecca includes additional pages on how to incorporate stripes, eyelets as well as knitting different sleeve lengths.
Utah Yarn Crawl 2024

The Utah Yarn Crawl is returning July 13 – 20. This annual event celebrates the knitting, crocheting, and fiber arts community in Utah.

The stores participating in this year’s crawl are Julia’s  Shoppe, Petite Fours and Purls, Heindselman’s, Harmony, Willow Hill Yarn Company, Yarn on the Corner, Seed Stitch, Needlepoint Joint and Wasatch and Wool Yarns. Participants 18 years and older will receive a tote bag (quantities of these are limited) and a passport that they will have stamped as they visit each store. Once all the stores have stamped your passport, turn it in to become eligible to win a fantastic prize.

Wasatch and Wool's theme this year is A trip around the world (without having to leave the yarn shop!) We will be showcasing our new yarn: Kokon Blue (Netherlands), Wooldreamers (Spain), Hey Mama Wolf (Germany), Tukuwool (Finland), Madelinetosh (USA); as well as favorites Noro and Ito (Japan), Rowan, and The Fibre Co. (England), Dragon Hoard, Primrose, Brooklyn Tweed, Blue Sky Fibers, and Plied Yarn (USA), Knitting for Olive and Isager (Denmark), Fonty (France), Julie Asselin (Canada), Lang (Switzerland) and Sandnes Garn (Norway).
Kristin Drysdale, @Scandiwork will be joining us on Wednesday, July 17th from 1-3pm signing copies of her best selling knitting book The Nordic Knitting Primer

Knitters love Kristin’s book because she makes Scandinavian knitting accessible through her innovative and approachable methods. Kristin’s encouraging guidance, step-by-step photos, and foolproof instructions will help you succeed at colorwork so you can knit Scandinavian yoke sweaters, mittens and hats. She includes a beautiful selection of her patterns in the book.

We are also featuring a trunk show of Kirstin's patterns throughout the Yarn Crawl.
