A New Chapter for Wasatch & Wool

Hello Friends,

I am so excited to continue Wasatch & Wool’s community! It is a dream come true. First, I want to take a heartfelt moment to thank Margaux, the soul of this shop. She created a beautiful, welcoming place to gather, learn, and connect. Her kindness, knowledge and dedication built a true community around yarn, and I feel honored to carry that legacy forward.

A LITTLE ABOUT ME:

My name is Alex (Schwerdt) Wheeler. I have grown up in Utah and live in Park City with my husband, Andy and adorable Goldendoodle, Winston. I come from a construction background going to college at Southern Utah University and living in Salt Lake building/managing many structures around Utah and the Western US.

I learned how to crochet when I was very young helping my mom crochet bandages to be donated. I was taught knitting by my sister-in-law and have been knitting for over 24 years. I’ve since taken up spinning 7 years ago and have loved the process of creating unique yarn. Knitting has been one of the biggest parts of my life but both while growing up and in college, local yarn shops weren’t near me, and we didn’t have YouTube tutorials yet. Because of the isolation I felt not knowing where to go for knitting help when I was stuck on a mistake, when I didn’t understand knitting terms, and had no knitting community, I feel strongly that our local yarn shops are so important to keep our community together.

I want Wasatch & Wool to continue to be a place where people go to meet fellow makers, discover new skills, get inspired and feel at home. I also want to assure you that you will continue to see the same great faces when you come to the shop. I am looking forward to meeting and getting to know so many of you! I have felt so supported by our employees, by Margaux, and so many in the community. I hope you share your story with me over some cozy knitting this fall and winter. I’m interested to hear what you’d love to see in the future!

ON MY NEEDLES:

I recently finished Caitlin Hunter’s Ghost Horses (which was such a joy to knit, I love colorwork) and have begun Lily Kate France’s Poisoned Apple top. I am knitting in Knitting for Olive’s Merino doubled up and Soft Silk Mohair in Bottle Green. I should finish my short sleeve top just in time for the snow.
