Tukuwool Fingering
If you have been feeling the need to start a new project and find a yarn that transports you to a different place, Tukuwool Fingering is the yarn for you!
Tukuwool Fingering is a unique fingering weight wool from Finland. The wool is made from two different breeds of sheep, Finnish Landrace (Finnsheep) Wool and Kainuun Harmas. This wonderful, 2-ply yarn has a very special twist that creates a light and lively yarn and provides a very enjoyable knitting experience for those who are fans of woolly wools like me. This versatile yarn is designed for knit projects such as cardigans, pullovers, mittens and shawls. Tukuwool Fingering is sourced, scoured, milled and dyed in Finland.
My first pattern suggestion for Tukuwool Fingering must be one that I just finished knitting with this yarn and really enjoyed, forager by Isabell Kramer. Forager is knitted seamlessly from the top down. The yoke is shaped by using a modified version of the contiguous set-in sleeves method. As the pattern calls for a DK-weight gauge, I held a strand of our Tynn Silk Mohair with my Aubergine colored Tukuwool Fingering.
Another pattern suggestion which was designed for Tukuwool Fingering comes from Kristin Drysdale. Marit is a Fair Isle cardigan worked seamlessly in the round from the bottom up until the neckband shaping, which is worked flat. Then the center steek is cut and steeks are cut for the armholes from the existing stitches for the body. There are three colors in the pattern design, but only two colors are knitted at once.
If you are looking for a classic cardigan using Tukuwool Fingering, I have two suggestions. The first, Sammal is by Joji Locatelli.
From Joji, “Sammal is a classic textured button-down cardigan. Sometimes that’s all I want to reach for in my closet… It is worked from the top-down seamlessly with raglan sleeves, and it features tiny braids in the front that add a bit charm. The Finnish yarn (from Tukuwool) that I used for this design is light and cozy at the same time, and it makes this little sweater a timeless beauty.”
The second cardigan is Stockbridge by Ysolda Teague. This is the classic fitted cardigan that every wardrobe needs. Fronts and backs are worked in one piece to the underarms. Then, the upper back and fronts are worked separately to allow for slightly different shaping. Stitches are later picked up for the sleeves and the collar. Stockbridge was designed for Tukuwool Fingering, and Ysolda uses many interesting, though not difficult, techniques to create a very neat in appearance cardigan sweater.
My last project suggestion for Tukuwool Fingering is Tuku Honey by Andrea Mowry.
From Andrea, I wanted the perfect socks to wear with my favorite boots! These socks hit just above the ankle, perfect for chelsea style boots. The sweet garter panel framed by honeycomb cables makes for an addictive little knit! They are my go to travel knit, and I hope you love them just as much as I do! These socks are worked from the toe up using magic loop.
As you can see from the designers featured above who have all created gorgeous patterns with Tukuwool Fingering, this yarn is one you should try. You will enjoy working with this yarn and will cherish your finished project for years to come.
