The Best Fall Knitting Ever!
Share
We have been enjoying a spectacular fall here in Park City.
It started with pinks, oranges, and reds of the maples and now the aspens are gorgeous shades of yellow and gold. While we have had our share of rainy days, others have been perfect for enjoying all that fall has to offer.
If you want to keep this fall feeling throughout the year, here are some great projects that will help you do that.
Woolstok Fall Festival Bundle Kit
Blue Sky Fiber’s Woolstok Fall Festival Bundle gathers the colors of rustling foliage, gourds, and pumpkins (as well as pumpkin pie and pumpkin spice lattes!) It includes 21 mini hanks (12 yards each) in seven different colors. These mini hanks can be used for all kinds of crafting including knitting, crocheting, weaving, felting and more.
The yarn in the hanks is the perennial favorite, Woolstok (Worsted) a 2 ply yarn from the highest quality Peruvian Highland sheep. It is very soft and rich in character with excellent stitch definition.
The Blue Sky Fibers designers have also created some fun and seasonal patterns especially for the Fall Festival Bundle.
My favorite is Acorn Street Cap by Mary Pranica. I love the orange and yellow of the oak trees and the acorns sitting below them. The pattern includes an easy to follow colorwork chart.
Another favorite would have to be Pumpkin Patch by Nancy Ekvall. By holding two strands together, you can mix the colors to create your own unique pumpkin patch.
Scatter your handknit leaves inside your home, or attach them on a garland. Use Bobbi IntVeld’s Fall Leaves pattern to create a colorful mix of oak, birch, and maple leaves.
If you are looking for the perfect boot sock, Seward Socks by Caitlin Hunter is the pattern to knit. The combination of simple colorwork and cables keeps the knitting engaging and ends with a beautiful and stylish sock. These socks are knit from the cuff down with a short row heel.
My yarn recommendation for these socks is Sock from Isager. Sock is a combination of 40% Easy-Wash Alpaca, 40% Easy-Wash Merino and 20% recycled nylon. This results in a durable yet soft fabric that can be machine washed.
Easy-Wash is the environmentally friendly alternative to the standard chlorine process used to make the fibers machine washable without shrinking. The Easy-Wash process is a treatment with eco-friendly oxidants, sourced in Germany and certified under REACH, Oeko-tex and ZDH (Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemical) standards. This means that this treatment does not involve the discharge of hazardous chemicals, which is not the case with most machine washable yarns in today’s market.
Another pattern that would be gorgeous in Sock from Isager is Nutmeg Socks from Tania Barley. Nutmeg Socks are knitted cuff down, they feature a textured stitch pattern on the leg and foot and a simple stitch heel flap and gusset.
A brand-new yarn that I am very excited to have in the store is Forage from Primrose Yarn Co. Forage is a 2 ply, worsted weight, woolen spun yarn made from 100% USA grown Targhee – Columbia wool. Brooklyn Tweed and Primrose Yarn Co. are collaborating to assist American wool farmers across the USA. The yarn is dyed in Red Lion, PA making it a 100% American product from start to finish.
Named after the Hudson River that you cross on your way to the New York Sheep and Wool show, as well as the spectacular fall color that you see on both sides of the river, Hudson Cardi by Kelsey Stephens uses Forage as well as Primrose Yarn Co.’s Homestead Sport to create this spectacular cardigan. Kelsey wrote the pattern to be seamless and top down. She uses slipstitches to create the beautiful color pattern.
