Shop to help the California wildfire recovery!

I want to express my concern for everyone who has been affected by the wildfires in California. Though we are in Park City, our hearts are with all of you there. In late December, we were able to raise almost $300 for the Park City Professional Ski Patrol Strike Fund. We are repeating this fundraising effort in which 10% of all sales are donated. This time the money will be going to the Pasadena Community Foundation’s Eaton Fire Relief and Recovery Fund.
The Pasadena Community Foundation has been serving the communities of Altadena, Pasadena, and Sierra Madre for over 70 years. As an umbrella organization, they have worked closely with both civic and nonprofit leaders during good times and bad times to meet the changing needs.
The Eaton Fire Relief and Recovery funds will be used to address urgent short-term needs. Immediate priorities are supporting those directly impacted by the fires, including individuals displaced due to home loss, evacuation, or job loss—many experiencing more than one. The foundation will also engage with civic and nonprofit leaders to develop strategies for longer-term response and priorities.
Though we always like it when you come by and shop, it is especially important from Friday, January 24th through Thursday, January 31st when 10% of all sales will go to this important effort. You can also shop online!
For years, Rowan Moordale has been one of my favorite yarns. This truly British yarn is crafted from 70% British wool and 30% alpaca. Moordale offers a perfect balance of softness, warmth, and durability with a color range of neutrals and on-trend brights to choose from. The yarn is wonderful for colorwork given its complementary range of shades, but it is also lovely in lace, cable and textured patterns.
Skylark is an elegant cardigan by Martin Storey designed for Moordale. Skylark is knit from the bottom-up, worked flat and seamed. I would suggest this pattern for more experienced knitters as many of Martin’s patterns assume a certain level of knitting expertise. That being said, if you have the experience, I highly recommend this pattern. Knitters have been very happy with their Skylark and often knit it multiple times!
I liked Lisa Richardson’s Lingmore so much that I knitted one for myself using Moordale! This pattern was very easy to follow and very rewarding. If you are interested in knitting your own Lingmore, I have a few tips and tricks that I would love to share with you.
If you are looking for a comfortable and cozy knit for Moordale, I would recommend Moon Cabin Sweater by Gabrielle Vezina. According to Gabrielle, “My ideal vacation would be to spend a few nights in a cabin under the moon, spending my evenings roasting marshmallows in the fire pit and waking up to a chilly mist. The Moon Cabin Sweater is my go-to practical sweater to keep me warm during this trip.” Moon Cabin Sweater is worked from the top down, starting with the ribbed collar.
Do you need an even more relaxing project for the new year? Big and Bigger Basketweave Wrap by Churchmouse Yarns and Teas is the perfect pattern. It is shown above in Moordale 006. Bib and Bigger Basketweave is so squishy, it can be worn as a scarf, shawl or cowl. The pattern is designed for two different weights of yarn. One version is for DK-weight Moordale. The other is for Aran weight yarns such as Mode at Rowan Softest Alpaca.
Mooredale is also a great yarn choice for Caitlin Hunter’s Halibut, a circular yoke sweater that features bold fish motifs. This sweater was inspired by Caitlin’s hometown of Homer, Alaska which is the halibut capital of the word and the traditional homeland of the Dena’ina, Sugpiaq, Yup’ik people.
Our last Moordale pattern comes from Martin Storey who has designed several hats for Moordale. In Bassett Hat, he uses three colors of Moordale to create an adorable plaid hat! Another beautiful feature is the 1 x 1 colorwork ribbing.
We just received a new shipment of Malabrigo Rasta, and once again it is selling fast!
Malabrigo Rasta is a luxurious, super bulky yarn made from 100% merino wool which is renowned for its incredible softness and warmth. Hand-dyed in small batches, Rasta features a stunning array of rich, vibrant colors, including both solids and variegated tones, ensuring every skein is unique. With its single-ply construction and slightly felted texture, this yarn offers excellent stitch definition while maintaining a cozy, plush feel.
Below are a few favorite patterns from December’s newsletter which featured Rasta.

Customers and employees have expressed a lot of interest in knitting this mosaic and stranded colorwork shawl. Designer Natasja Hornby is known for her “Grand Mosaic” shawls and Artus with its gorgeous blend of colors and patterning is certainly one of her most beautiful creations.
Sport or light DK wool yarns are recommended for Artus. If you would like to join us, please stop by to choose your palette from Brooklyn Tweed Imbue Sport, Julie Asselin Journey Sport, Primrose Homestead Sport, Isager Tweed, Rowan Felted Tweed, or The Fibre Co. Lore.
We will be meeting again on Monday, February 3rd. Please let us know if you would like to be part of this knitting adventure. We ask that you purchase the yarn for this KAL from Wasatch and Wool.
