Double Sunday – a yarn worth waiting for!

Sometimes certain yarns are so popular and in such demand that it takes a long time to curate a beautiful selection of colors. Double Sunday from Sandnes Garn is one of those yarns. I am happy to say that months after initially bringing it in, we finally have a stunning collection.
Double Sunday yarn by Sandnes Garn is a luxurious, versatile yarn made from 100% merino wool. Known for its soft texture and excellent stitch definition, it's a favorite for both beginner and experienced knitters alike. Double Sunday has not undergone superwash treatment, which helps the fibers retain its natural elasticity, warmth, and softness. This plied, DK weight yarn has a plump, round strand that delivers crisp stitch definition to show off textured stitches, cables & colorwork.

This yarn is ideal for a variety of projects—from cozy sweaters and cardigans to hats and scarves. Double Sunday is available in a rich palette of colors, many are designed in collaboration with well-known knitting designer, PetiteKnit. A few of her patterns are featured below.
Two pullovers that PetiteKnit designed for Double Sunday are the Marseille Sweater and Moby Sweater.

Marseille Sweater invokes the traditional French, nautical inspired, navy and cream striped sweater. However, PetiteKnit’s version of it exemplifies Scandinavian style and a simple aesthetic. It is worked seamlessly from the top down using short rows for the shoulder shaping.

Moby Sweater is also a classic. Here PetiteKnit combines texture and cables to create a stunning pullover. The pattern uses Double Sunday as well as a lace mohair or alpaca to achieve a worsted weight gauge of 20 stitches to 4 inches. It is worked seamlessly from the top down as well and uses short rows for the shoulder shaping.
PetiteKnit’s Hipster Hat is a very popular hat and a great Christmas gift pattern idea. You would need 2 balls of Double Sunday. (I knitted one using Ula + Lia Cashmere DK that is a shop sample.) The sizes of this hat range from baby to adult. While the pattern calls for a tubular cast on, I was in a hurry and just did a long-tail cast on instead. The hat turned out beautifully.
Maggie Vest is one of PetiteKnit’s newest patterns. It is a versatile vest that can be worn alone or with a top underneath. It was designed for Double Sunday (as well as our Lang Cashmere Premium if you want to knit a truly luxurious garment!) The vest is worked flat from the top down.
Antiope by Sari Nordland is featured in her book Softly – Timeless KnitsAntiope is named after the daughter of Ares, the god of war, and the sister of Hippolyta, queen of the Amazons.  Her name, Antiope, means confronting.

Designed for Double Sunday, the Antiope pullover is knitted seamlessly top-down starting at the neckline. The cable pattern is easy to memorize and the raglan increases over the cable pattern are charted.
Another stunning pullover is Salty Days Sweater by Veronika Lindberg (Kutovakika). The Salty Days Sweater was inspired by the salt fields in Portugal - the different sections of textures look like the intricate patterns of salt flakes.

The sweater is worked top down and has a dropped shoulder with extra-long sleeves for a feminine and cozy look. Veronika Lindberg recommends knitting Salty Days Sweater using Double Sunday held with a lace mohair.
If you want a snowflake rather than a salt flake, Snow Wonder by Heidi Kirrmaier is available in childrens and adult sizes. The adult size pattern is knit in worsted weight, store favorite Shelter is the recommended yarn, but the children’s size was designed for a DK weight including Double SundaySnow Wonder (children) should fit ages 4-12, but please read Heidi Kirrmaier’s sizing guide to determine which size to choose for your project.

This festive little pullover is knit seamlessly from the top down with raglan shaping. The top part is knit flat while the neck shaping takes place, then the remainder is knit in the round. Stitches for the collar are picked up and knit at the end.
Liv Mittens by Valentina Fezova-Georgieva strike a perfect balance between beauty and functionality. These classic mittens designed for Double Sunday feature comfortable thumb gussets that fit the shape of your hand. The mittens also have a long cuff, preventing any gap between the mitten and your coat sleeve. They are comfortable and easy to knit, being suitable for both beginners and intermediate knitters.

Emergency Slow Knitting Club Meeting
December 5th and 12th from 4:30 – 6:30pm.

It is this time of the year that I realize how much more knitting I need to complete for the number of gifts that I would like to give. Making this a bit more stressful, I am not the fastest knitter. In fact, you could call me a slow knitter.

If you are like me and need to put aside some additional knitting time, please join me on Thursdays, December 5th and 12th to knit at the store. Bring your hot chocolate or other favorite beverage and I will supply the Christmas cookies. You are not required to own the Slow Knitting Club Tote to join the club, but if you make a purchase of yarn, needles or totes during the meetings, you will be entered in a drawing for a skein of yarn.
If you need a quick project idea, one of my favorite designers, Jennifer Shiels Toland of JSTDesigns just released a new hat, Hudson Ripple Hat. Its design is inspired by the creeks and streams flowing into the Hudson River in upstate New York.

The hat has a 30% discount until November 18th. To get the discount use the code HRIPPLEHAT30 when you purchase it on Ravelry. JSTDesigns will immediately send you the pattern introduction and will put the full pattern in your Ravelry library on December 1st when her 12 Days Before Christmas KAL begins.

ImbueShelterFarWoolstok, or Cumbria would all be wonderful yarn choices for this project.
